Nizampet Residents Protest, Seek Removal of Commissioner Sabir Ali for Mismanagement

Nizampet: The Nizampet Joint Action Committee (JAC) has demanded the immediate transfer of Municipal Commissioner Sabir Ali, alleging large-scale corruption, administrative inefficiency, misuse of funds and negligence in addressing key civic issues. The committee staged a protest and submitted a representation to officials, urging the government to appoint an IAS or Group-1 officer as Commissioner to “save the corporation from collapse.”

According to the JAC, the current Commissioner—posted at a Grade-3 municipal level—has failed to deliver on essential civic responsibilities including sanitation, maintenance of the dumping yard, civil works, town planning, and public grievance redressal. Members also accused him of favoritism, awarding contracts to select groups, and enabling illegal encroachments of roads and parks.

“Commissioner Appointment Violates Municipal Law” — JAC

Addressing the protest, JAC members stated that under Telangana Municipal Law, a corporation-level municipality must be led by a minimum Group-1 or IAS officer. They pointed out that Nizampet previously had IAS and Group-1 officers as commissioners, but after 2022, the then-TRS government appointed an “unqualified” veterinary doctor, Ramakrishna, which they allege damaged the corporation’s functioning.

They questioned why the current Congress government continued the practice by appointing Sabir Ali, whom they believe should have been posted to a smaller municipality.

Allegations Against Current Commissioner

Protesters alleged that under Sabir Ali's tenure:

The corporation’s reputation has deteriorated.

Administrative systems have “gone off track.”

Financial mismanagement has left the corporation “nearly bankrupt.”

Sanitation has worsened despite Nizampet previously winning the “Swachh Survekshan Award” twice.

Contracts and staff appointments were manipulated to favor certain groups.

With no elected municipal council in place, decisions are taken “unilaterally.”

The JAC demanded that the government replace him with a qualified IAS or Group-1 officer immediately.

Warning of Larger Protests

The committee warned that if no action is taken, they will launch a large-scale protest with local residents in front of the Collector’s Office and CDMA Office.

The event saw participation from community members including: Akula Satish, Dr. Raju, Amaleshwari, Malyala Ramani, Ramachandra Naik, Mekala Nagesh, Srinivas Goud, Puli Balaram, Katti Bhimaraju, Anjaneyulu, Chandu, Arun Rao, Nursing, Sai Krishna Reddy, Ashok Naik, Madhav Rao, Srinivas, Eshwar Reddy, Raju, Hanumayya, VHP leader Venkatesh, Ramakrishna Reddy, Naresh Gupta, Lana, Narotham Reddy, Pandu, Brindavan Colony Chandrasekhar, Sai Krishna Colony Suresh, Vinod Naik, Sridhar and numerous residents from various colonies.
