In a proactive step towards promoting road safety among the younger generation, the Santoshnagar Traffic Police organized a comprehensive Traffic Awareness Program today at Vikas High School, located within the Santoshnagar limits. The event was attended by over 200 students and featured the presence of key officials including Shri Chandra Kumar, ACP of South East Zone; Mohammed Asif, Inspector of Traffic PS Santoshnagar; SI Venkatappa, Traffic Training Instructor; and HC Venu Gopal, TTI Training Officer. The primary objective of the program was to educate students about the importance of traffic rules, safe pedestrian behavior, and responsible conduct as cyclists and future drivers. The officers emphasized that traffic rules are not just legal obligations but essential practices that safeguard lives and prevent accidents. Through engaging presentations and real-life examples, the students were made aware of how their everyday choices on the road can have serious consequences. One of the key segments of the session focused on understanding basic traffic signals and signs. Students were taught the meanings of red (stop), yellow (get ready), and green (go) signals, along with the significance of zebra crossings, speed limit signs, and school zone indicators. The officers also highlighted the importance of using footpaths, looking both ways before crossing the road, and avoiding distractions like mobile phones or headphones while walking.Cycle safety was another important topic covered during the program. Students were advised to always wear helmets, avoid double riding unless permitted, and strictly follow traffic signals. The officers stressed that even as cyclists, students have a responsibility to ensure their own safety and that of others on the road. The session also addressed risky behaviors that often lead to accidents, such as running across roads, playing near traffic areas, and traveling on footboards or in overcrowded vehicles. Students were urged to avoid such practices and to be vigilant at all times.

A particularly serious message was delivered regarding the consequences of minor driving. The officers explained that if a minor is caught driving, the vehicle owner or parent will face legal prosecution and possible jail time. The minor will be sent to a juvenile home for four days, the vehicle’s registration certificate (RC) will be canceled for one year, and the minor will be barred from obtaining a driving license until the age of 25.

To ensure students are prepared in case of emergencies, the program concluded with a reminder of essential helpline numbers: Police (100), Ambulance (108), and the local Traffic Police Helpline.

In his closing remarks, ACP Shri Chandra Kumar encouraged the students to be ambassadors of road safety. “You are the future citizens of our nation. By following traffic rules and guiding your friends and families, you can help build a safer society,” he said.

The event ended on a high note, with students taking a pledge to follow traffic rules and spread awareness among their peers. Nyayamithra News commends the efforts of the Santoshnagar Traffic Police and Vikas High School for their commitment to nurturing responsible and safety-conscious citizens.
