In a major crackdown, Afzalgunj Police apprehended Jaya Kumar (50) of Raichur, Karnataka—alleged kingpin of a notorious inter-state attention diversion gang—under Crime No. 177/2025 U/s. 318(4), 303(2) BNS. The gang reportedly lured unsuspecting victims by offering original gold at half price, later fleeing with hefty cash payments.
The breakthrough came with the recovery of ₹40 lakh in cash and the seizure of a Hyundai Creta (Reg No: KA.33.M.**) believed to have been used in the crime. Two accomplices, identified as Uday @ Reddy and Sandeep @ Raghu, also from Raichur, remain at large.
The gang's fraudulent operation came to light following a complaint by a real estate businessman from Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, who lost ₹65 lakh in a bogus gold deal staged at Putlibowli X Road. According to the victim, the suspects delivered a decoy bag filled with sarees and stones before escaping on unmarked motorcycles and cutting off all contact.
Under the leadership of Dr. B. Bala Swamy, IPS, DCP East Zone, and coordinated by ADCP Sri J. Narsaiah and ACP Sri M. Mattiah, a special team led by SHO Sri N. Ravi and DI Sri B. Ravi Kiran from Afzalgunj PS meticulously pieced together clues through CCTV analysis and digital forensics. The arrest was made on June 22 near CBS.
The investigation team's relentless efforts—especially those of HCs Md. Yaseen Shareef, Srikanth Bidla and PCs J. Jitender, Md. Suleman, G. Srikanth, and Vishal Kumar—have been widely applauded. Authorities continue their search to bring the remaining culprits to justice.
